Living the Tuscan Life

How would you like to have the experience of really living life in Tuscany? How would you like to live in a real historic Tuscan home in Italy? We found a beautiful and authentic Tuscan estate that gave us the oppurtunity to experience living the Tuscan life.

Where did we find our beautiful Tuscan home? Of course on AirBNB. We have used AirBNB on several occasions and have only had excellent experiences. But our Tuscan AirBNB was hands down the most unique accomations we have ever had. We are baby boomers and this home gave us exactly what we were looking for. Peace, quiet and a real Tuscan experience. However with all the beautiful property and multiple units it would be the perfect setting for a family reunion. There is plenty of room for kids to run around and actually experience the beauty of simple living. No TV giving you plenty of time to talk to each other. There is Wifi so you can still stay in touch.

Our Tuscan home was about 30 minutes away from Siena, Italy in the heart of Tuscany. It was as authentic as anyone could ever imagine. So authentic that as we drove up the very narrow street into the tiny community of Simignano we were having a hard time imagning that we were in the right place. Invision a small Tuscan village like you might see in a movie, that is Simignano.

The area we first drove into was made of several small, cozy homes built of stone. Some were apartement like and some were stand alone. Not knowing where exactly we were going, we asked the first person we saw and were immediatly directed to one of their neighbors just a few feet away around the corner. There we saw several people sitting outside, doing nothing but socializing. Something we should do more often, socialize with our neighbors. We were immediately greeted and warmly welcomed. It was so fun!

Our Home

Our accomedations were not in the main cluster, but down the road a bit to a mucher larger building with 4 or 5 smaller apartment dwellings. We passed a couple of pigs grazing across the road, they weren’t fenced in and eventually just wandered away.

There were lots of pigs in the fields across our yard (there is no piggy smell) on the others side of the stone wall. It was fun to see them roaming and rooting around, in the vast field they enjoyed. The way animals should be kept. They were curious and friendly. One very ealry morning when I went to see them, they came running from a distance to say hello and see if I had any goodies for them. There was a light dew all over and the air was cool, but not cold. It was so serene. Just me and the hogs.

This home was centrally located, just 30 minutes to Siena. A day trip to Saturnia, well known beautiful mineral pools and just a day trip to Pisa. Simignano is out in the country, so it’s a good idea to swing into Siena and pick up some groceries before heading to your home. There is a small kitchen so if you feel like cooking, you have that option. We purchased some cheese and salami and opened a bottle of wine on our first night.

There are a couple of nice restaurants in the area too, local Italian food, but not always open, so plan ahead. But if you just want to hang out and enjoy the beautiful setting like some of our visiting neighbors did, that’s always ok too.

The hosts offer a selection of a few local wines and some of the best olive oil I’ve ever had. There is a charge for these items, but it is a nice touch and the price was reasonable in my opinion. We had a couple of bottles of wine and brought home the olive oil. It’s a nice large bottle and we use it for special occasions.
