Essential Oils for Restful Sleep

I rarely have a problem falling asleep, in fact trying to stay awake come darkness is a real struggle for me. Every now and then staying asleep is a problem. Throughout my years of educating people on health and wellness occasional sleeplessnes can leave you feeling exhausted the next day. Getting enough hours of sleep, which science has shown 8-10 hours for an adult is important for overall health and welbeing.

The good news is that there are several doTERRA essential oils that support occasional sleeplessnes. As always, none of us are the same, figuring out which essential oils work best for you, may take a little experimentation. What works fabulous for one person, may do nothing for another. Don’t lose hope because there are lots of oil options and combinations to try. I use essential oils every night before bed and even after many years I still like to change things up every now and then.

Here are my favorite essential oils for sleep.

  1. Ylang Ylang
  2. Vetiver
  3. Clary Sage
  4. Cedarwood
  5. Lavender
  6. Pathchouli
  7. Roman Chamomile
  8. Bergamot

How to use your essential oils.

Topically

Applying essential oils topically is actually my favorite way to use my oils. When I do, I become my own personal diffuser, carrying them with me right into bed.

I apply my chosen essential oils either to the inside of my wrists or on the bottoms of my feet. Sometimes I will apply a little right on my neck or over my heart. You could put them on the back of your neck too. If you have sensitive skin or have never used essential oils topically before it’s a good idea to dilute with a high quality carrier oil, fractionated cocomut oil is my favorite. It is light and leaves no greasy feeling.

Aromatically

Diffusing your essential oils is a great way to experience their benefits all night long. Just find a diffuser that will run for several hours. Simply add a few drops of your favorite doTERRA essential oils. Set it right next to your bed where you can inhale their relaxing scents.
